I think as school is starting and the massive amounts of birthdays (mine included!) going on for the month of September, my blogging is going to be a bit more sporadic. I'll try to get posts in but already it feels like we're in constant recovery mode, and of course I'll still be keeping up with

one of my new favorite blogs. She has some great giveaways going on right now for a Roku box (here) and a Casio lighted keyboard (here). Ziggy and Goose would love these, Ziggy to show off the little Beethoven he knows and Goose because Netflix has all the Scooby Doo episodes online.

I'm off to clean the house or take a nap, whichever comes first!

Eight Year Anniversary / Six Year Anniversary

Even if we're not as in synch as we once were; even if we don't spend even half as much time together as before kids; and even if there are times when I want to push him down and never stop kicking him in the groin, I'm lucky to have Ziggy.

We met eight years ago August 24th when he and his roommate knocked on my door to meet the chicks of the dorms. When his roommate left, he stayed. We were seventeen and practically living together by the end of the month. He was hilarious and so smart, the two things I'm a sucker for.

Two years after that we were married (August 24th).

So what did we do for our anniversary? Well we saw Harry Potter in Imax 3D over the weekend while my parents watched the kids (so awesome). Then, on the actual day, as though the universe didn't want us to celebrate, Ziggy surprised me and took a half day. I felt like batting, so we headed for the batting cages.

Then we decided to drive out towards our college and stop off at a fun diner.

Due to traffic issues, it was going to take an extra hour, and with the kids in the car and cranky for two hours, that didn't sound fun.

So I decided upon a local environment museum.

We got there. Got the kids out of the car. Walked in. Walked around exhibits looking for someone. Oops, they were closed.

Ultimately we got a gargoyle at a local fountain store and ate Indian food on the fly. We then stopped off for a movie and I thought he was being serious when he suggested Gooby.

Oops. Stay far, FAR away from Gooby!

Weekly Worth a Listen Tuesday is the Chronicles of My Ordinary and Awesome Life, Family, and Thoughts. is the Mostly Wordless Wednesday headquarters as well as the home to several original awards and memes.

Here's a list of my end of summer songs:

Death Cab for Cutie - Summer Skin (End of summer in a nutshell)

Human Highway - The Sound (Easily in my top ten favorite songs ever!)

Alexi Murdoch - Orange Sky

Pavement - Cut Your Hair (Ok, so these lyrics have nothing to do with summer but the music reminds me of summer)

Fleet Foxes - Mykonos

She Had So Many Carpet Samples She Didn't Know What to Do

Ziggy is a man of many talents. In addition to crocheting clothes and blankets for the kiddos, and repairing doors, reaching things that are high up, consistently beating me at Scattegories and Super Mario Bros., he's a great accountant. But lately he's had to do other projects for his job and had been buiding a database/spreadsheet type GUI for a new company his company's tenant now had in it's building.

The company is a home design center and the waste is incredible. So when they had five hundred carpet samples that they were going to chuck in the dumpster he gave me a call. So now we have massive amounts of carpet, and while the kids greatly enjoy turning them into steps and forts and hopscotch tracks, I'm looking for homes for these poor little carpet orphans.

I may try to make something here, though definitely not that huge divider; and Ludo's doghouse will be getting new insulation. Plus there's this neat company called reCreate that does crafts for kids with excess that business don't use and give to them. They're around town and said they'd take 100. But what now? Any ideas?

Goose made my hair super fancy tonight (we're talking thirty hairclips at one time) and we got in our jammies and drove out past the lights. With ice cream in hand we laid on the hood of my car and watched the tail end of the Perseids shower.

Let me just say that four year olds are more excited by bugs and satelites than trying to spy the meteors. She did get very excited everytime she saw one because her wish would come true.

And here's where I'm going to sound really insane. Looking up at the sky really helps you appreciate the enormity of the world. It made my obsessing over how I would change our kitchen fly out the window and instead just appreciate my company.

When you were a kid, did you ever have a fear that the world would flip and you'd fly off for space to die alone, frozen and oxygen deprived? Yep, there's the insanity. Well that anxious little kid in me never fully left. I always still feel this sort of apprehension about sky and death, but tonight, with Goose, I really felt like it didn't matter. I'm here to protect her and I don't care what happens to me as long as she and Monkey are ok. So, there's the insanity mixed with some crazy sappiness and it ends here.

To go along with the shower we've been reading Patricia Polacco's Meteor this week. Goose was really excited when I told her that Polacco had come to my school when I was little and let everyone in the school touch the piece of the meteor from her familiy's farm and that your wish would come true for touching it. She asked me what I wished for and I sheepishly told her it was for all the makeup in the world (which sounds exactly like something Goose would say, except maybe all the marshmallows or giraffes instead). So that sparked her wishes tonight (a kiss first, then everything in the whole world to be in her room).

It's been ten years since I last watched Peresids. I sat on top of a friend's station wagon at a party for my boyfriend and several other friend's collective birthday. We talked about life. Oh, how different that fifteen year old was from me now. I can remember wishing that I was graduating to go and still take classes with my boyfriend, and wishing that things never change. And while I wish I still weighed as much as I did back then, I'm so happy with how my life has changed. I'm so in love with my kids and my husband. Tonight the universe has me not wishing for anything at all. (Ok so the sappiness ends here!)

Thoughts on Thursday

Thought #1: this might be the worst pic of Monkey ever.

Last night I noticed a spider bite on Monkey's forearm. It didn't look serious, even though we do have a lot of black widows around here, there was no target markings around the site. Now today it looks very angry and I keep covering it with a band aid, which Monkey rips off and puts in his mouth. It's getting bigger and redder and I'm pretty sure it's a wolf spider bite, but my hypochondriac mind keeps saying, "take him to the hospital".

He's acting fine, though--still eating (check the goober pretzel pic), still pulling sister's hair (for maybe the millionth time today), but I worry. It's probably karma for yesterday hearing screaming while we were at a class and running to Monkey to see that the girl next to him had fallen, and, while still helping her up, feeling relieved.

While I was diagnosing his bite, as any normal person does on a "bad spider bites" site, I found this gem, where you can feed a spider drugs and watch him build a nest. Goose liked the "pyramid fly" aka mescaline.

These are a Few of my Favorite Things...
So Goose loves holiday music, "Monster Mash", "Maoz Tzur/Rock of Ages" (her Hebrew is hilarious), "Rudolph", all are sung on a daily basis even when it's 100 degrees, so I guess that's why I've had "These are a Few..." playing over and over again in my head.

So on that note (ha! ha!) here are a few of my favorite things:

Breakfast skewers. I saw this on Cooking During Stolen Moments and we do this now all the time! When dining alfresco, there is nothing better than these that the kiddos get to customize on their own with whatever fruit and carbs you've got in the fridge. Here's pineapple, grape and bagel.

A Pulley System. We didn't have rope, so after tying together belts and a jump rope (with paintbrushes, cause we're so MacGuyver-like) we now have an easy and fun way of keeping the house organized. Whatever toys that are downstairs and get put away upstairs get put in the basket and hauled up at the end of the night. It makes it fun and manageable for Goose and I to do, while Ludo and Monkey try to grab the basket.

The Mysterious Benedict Society. We're not done with it yet, so please don't spoil if anyone is commenting and has read it! It's a bit hefty and probably a bit over Goose's head, but it reads like Dahl and Snicket had a love child. Reynie exemplifies the kinds of morals that I want to instill in Goose, so even if she isn't getting the plot, which I can go over with her, it's heartening to hear her say things like "that's good that he's not cheating" and "he's being nice to Constance and she's not nice to him!", plus her sitting on my back and brushing my hair while shouting "Mysterious Benedict Society" everytime they say it is great.

Giveaways. I'm a full blown addict. I have a problem. Ziggy and I argue about it all the time and while he doesn't get it, I think you will so here are the places you'll want to check out:

Do you love SKR as much as I do? I mean to the point where I considered driving 10 hours for their warehouse sale in Portland, whoops! I mean to visit family... Well There's a HUGE back to school giveaway going on at 3 Garnets & 2 Sapphires. Go. get thee there!

Help Multiple Blessings reach her blog goals and get to BlogHer 2010 with her super-amazing $50 gift card giveaway!

I also really love Amazon and am super excited and hoping I can win Giveaway Central's first giveaway!

Finally, Vampires. True Blood is amazing. Ziggy and I are beginning the Sookie Stackhouse novels (he's on book 2, while I've got Frankenstein to finish first, but don't get your panties in a bunch, Mom, I've only just begun), I'm a Twilight fan, too. I think Gary Oldman is keen. I've seen Plan Nine From Outer Space. And that might be why I think that Goose is sucking an unsuspecting Monkey's blood in this pic:

Take Me Back Tuesday

I love this meme, but I have to say what the heck? If I didn't know and see my kids come out of me I'd swear they were just little Ziggy clones. Monkey looks so much like Ziggy in this pic just Ziggy was bit pudgier here! Where's my genes? No wonder our pediatrician calls Monkey "Biggy Ziggy".

Why I Love Company
We watched a friend of Goose's today while her mom did errands and I just couldn't seem like a terrible mom with my extremely messy (but organized) household, so a deep clean was in order!

I'm so proud! I'm off to roast a roast or whatever good housewives do...

Friday Random Ten
So, this is the first time I've done this and I think it's interesting how much of Ziggy's music's on there, I hit two Beyonce songs. Ridiculous! Then I put the two kid songs on here anyway just because I listen to them quite a bit and while Raffi makes me want to cry sometimes, Elizabeth Mitchell is awesome!

1. Danny Says- Less Than Jake
2. I will Follow You Into the Dark- Death Cab for Cutie
3. Think for Yourself- The Beatles
4. Have You Ever Seen the Rain- CCR
5. Lovers in a Dangerous Time- Barenaked Ladies
6. I Feel Fine- The Beatles
7. I Saw Her Standing There- The Beatles
8. Swallowed a Fly- Raffi
9. Song Sung Blue- Neil Diamond
10. I'm Going to Catch You- Elizabeth Mitchell
